Brighton moves closer to negotiating with Chelsea over sale of Marc Cucurella

Brighton & Hove Albion are getting closer to the sale of Marc Cucurella to Chelsea.

the athletic understands the two clubs agreed on a fee considerably higher than the £52.5m quoted in last night’s reports.

Levi Colwill, Chelsea’s 19-year-old centre-back, will join Brighton on loan for next season.

An announcement confirming both deals is expected tomorrow.

Cucurella had been told to stay away from first-team training this week, with head coach Graham Potter keen to avoid distractions ahead of Sunday’s opening Premier League game against Manchester United.

The 24-year-old Spanish left-back handed in a transfer request amid interest from Manchester City.

But the reigning Premier League champions withdrew after falling far short of Brighton’s valuation.

Cucurella joined Brighton from Spain’s Getafe for £15m ($18.25m) last summer.

He impressed for Potter’s team, performing at left back, left centre-back and left-back over the course of 35 Premier League appearances.

The Spaniard scored a goal for Brighton, against Manchester United. He won the Brighton Players’ Player of the Season award and his own Player of the Season honour.
