One of the richest men in Ukraine, Oleksiy Vadaturksy, killed in an attack

One of Ukraine’s richest and most prominent businessmen was killed in what Kyiv said was a Russian bombardment of his home.

Grain exporter Oleksiy Vadaturksy, 74, and his wife Raisa were killed after a missile slammed into their home in the southern town of Mykolaiv on Saturday night, according to the BBC.

Vadaturksy owned the Ukrainian agricultural company Nibulon and was considered one of the most successful business figures in the war-torn nation.

Mykolaiv, which is on the route to the critical port of Odessa, has come under fierce Russian bombardment since the country launched its invasion in February.

An adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymy Zelensky claimed that Vadaturksy was attacked by Russian forces and that the missile landed in his bedroom at home.

The Kyiv Independent said that Vadaturksy's net worth was estimated at $400 million in 2021.

Local leader Vitaliy Kim praised the businessman’s “contribution to the development of the agricultural and shipbuilding industry, the development of the region is invaluable,” according to the BBC.

The Kyiv Independent said Vadaturksy’s net worth was estimated at $400 million in 2021.

It was a major player in Ukraine’s grain export industry that has been crippled by the ongoing conflict.

Ukraine has accused Russian forces of seizing grain supplies and selling them, a claim Moscow denies, the BBC reported.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, a drone-borne bomb exploded at the Russian Black Sea Fleet headquarters on the Crimean Peninsula on Sunday, injuring six people.

The area was captured by Russian forces in 2014.

The Black Sea Fleet said in a statement that the explosive appeared to be homemade, indicating the attack was carried out by Ukrainian insurgents.
